DETECTIVES investigating an allegation of assault on a young girl in Portsmouth say the incident was found to be false.
Police began investigating following a report that a nine-year-old girl had been assaulted sometime between 3.30pm and 4.08pm near to Hayling Avenue on Wednesday, July 3.
Detective Inspector Chris Parry said: ’Reports of this nature are clearly worrying for parents, but please be reassured that we take them extremely seriously and will always investigate them fully.
‘However, following further enquiries into this report it has transpired that no criminal offences actually took place.
‘We will always share as much information with parents and affected schools as quickly as possible. However, we have to carry out various enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of any report made to police.’
