POLICE have arrested a sixth person as part of the investigation into the death of Christopher Butler.
Officers looking into the murder of the 27-year-old, whose body was found in a house in Waverley Road, Southsea, early on New Year’s Day, have arrested a sixth person, a 41-year-old man from Southsea, on suspicion of murder.
Police say he remains in custody and will be interviewed in due course.
He is the fourth person to be arrested on suspicion of murder.
A police spokesman said: ‘Officers are still carrying out enquiries in the Waverley Road area of Southsea, and are speaking to members of the local community to keep them informed about these activities. We would like to take this opportunity to thank those people who have provided information to assist our enquiries already.’
So far Brendon Willis, 32, of no fixed abode, has appeared in court charged with the murder of Mr Butler. He appeared in court this morning and will appear at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow.
A 23-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed until February 17.
And two other men, aged 29 and 48, from Southsea, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in police custody.
Mr Butler’s family have this week paid tribute to him.
