ARMED police and a helicopter swooped on the Fareham area last night after gunshots were fired on Portsdown Hill.

Hampshire Constabulary launched a search for suspects following the serious public order incident which involved reports of shots being fired at Portsdown Hill, near Mick’s Monster Burgers, around 5.20pm.

Six people have since been arrested and remain in custody this morning. Arrests were made at addresses including Fairfield Avenue, in Fareham.

A man was treated for minor injuries at Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Cosham, though The News understands he did not have gunshot wounds.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: ‘We were alerted at 5.20pm last night to reports of a public disturbance.

‘We stood by at Queen Alexandra Hospital and we sent three ambulance officers, an ambulance crew and a hazard area response team.’

Police enquiries are ongoing.
