POLICE jobs could be cut by 1,000, a union has warned.

Unison said Sussex Police could lose the jobs by 2020 over cuts to government funding.

It comes after Sussex Police had to make savings of £50m over the last five years.

The force has indicated it will have 700 fewer officers and support staff, with another 300 staff to go from elsewhere.

Andy Stenning, Unison branch secretary at the force said: ‘Unison is opposed to these plans and will continue to fight to protect jobs and services.’
