POLICE have arrested a UKIP councillor following an allegation that he attacked someone at the launch of UKIP’s election campaign in Portsmouth.

Councillor Tony Hooke, who represents Andover South on Hampshire County Council, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of an assault which allegedly took place at Portsmouth Guildhall on April 28.

The 52-year-old, from Yately, has been released on bail. Cllr Ray Finch, leader of Hampshire UKIP, said Cllr Hooke strenuously denies the allegations against him.
