Police have issued this CCTV image of a man they want to speak with in connection with an attempted theft at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

A man was seen carrying a black plastic bag which was later found elsewhere in the building containing a coin mechanism from a vending machine on the hospital’s level D.

Police now want to speak to this man in connection with the incident.

Police staff investigator Jacqueline Johnson said: ‘Although we have not been made aware of any other similar offences, the circumstances suggest the offence was systematic and planned.

‘It is believed the offender may have been disturbed as the coins had not been removed from the mechanism.’

The incident happened at around 11.15pm on May 27 at the Cosham hospital.

The man is described as white, in his late 20s to early 30s, and around 5ft 10ins tall.

He had a slim build, short, fair hair, and wore faded black jeans.

He also wore a dark blue jumper with a shirt collar and white trainers.

Police said they would not disclose the amount of cash contained in the coin mechanism for security reasons.

Anyone who recognises the man in the CCTV image, or has any information, should call PSI Jacqueline Johnson at Fratton police station on 101.
