A SECURITY guard was robbed of thousands of pounds he had just picked up from a bank.

It happened just after 12.30pm yesterday at the High Street branch of Natwest, in Selsey, West Sussex.

The security guard was on his way back to the security van when he was confronted by a man in dark clothing and wearing a black motorcycle crash helmet.

He threatened the security guard with a weapon – which police say was not a gun – and forced him to hand over a bag containing several thousands of pounds in cash.

The robber than ran off in the direction of Croft Road. No one was hurt.

Sussex Police sealed off the area and a helicopter was called in to help search for the suspect, who they believe may have had accomplices.

Officers also carried out house-to-house enquiries and alerted Hampshire police.

Anyone who saw what happened, noticed any suspicious activity before or after or who has other information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting serial 0609 of 9/5.

Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
