A MAN caught driving a large goods vehicle without insurance while banned from driving has been spared jail.

Shaun Green, 46, of Chilcote Road, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to driving the Ford T280 van in Baffins Road, Baffins, Portsmouth, while he was subject to a ban.

He admitted fraud by informing an insurance broker that he had no driving convictions and was legally entitled to drive to get cover.

Green was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for six months by Portsmouth magistrates.

He was told to pay an £80 victim surcharge and £40 costs.

Six penalty points were added to his driving licence.
