A BURGLAR snatched a purse from a home while the owners were enjoying the sun in their back garden.

The incident occurred just before 1pm on Sunday at a house in Vicarage Lane, Stubbington.

The occupants were in the garden when they heard their dog barking.

They looked into the house and saw a man in the kitchen, who grabbed a purse from the victim’s handbag containing money and cards before escaping through a front window.

He fled on a bicycle towards Anker Lane.

The suspect is white, aged about 18, slim and about 5ft 9in.

He had dark, short-cropped hair and was wearing a burgundy hoodie and a white T-shirt.

PC Joanna Mansell said: ‘I would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area at the time or who saw a man matching the description of the suspect.

‘I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep their windows and doors secure, even if you are only popping out for a short time, relaxing in the garden or sleeping.’
