A ‘POWERFUL message’ about not speeding in a harbour has been sent out following a prosecution.

Ian Sneller, from Leatherhead in Surrey, was recorded travelling at 22 knots – around 25mph – in a large rigid inflatable boat in Chichester Harbour.

The courts fined him £750 and ordered him to pay costs in excess of £1,000.

This follows four other speeding prosecutions in 2014 and a further four cautions for speeding and one for causing excessive wash.

The speed limit is 8 knots.

Harbourmaster Richard Craven said: ‘The court has sent a powerful message to those that flout the speed limit.’
