WOULD-BE robbers threatened to stab a couple and tried to steal their mobile phones.

The attack happened on Chichester Canal pathway, under the A27 bridge.

As the couple walked along the pathway they were approached by two women who stood in front and behind them demanding their phones and money.

They took one phone but were disturbed by a jogger and began to run away chased by one of the victims.

He managed to call the police and get his phone back from the girl.

Three possible witnesses have been identified, including the jogger who disturbed the suspects, and a man and woman cycling along the river who spoke with one of the victims.

PC Ben Hitchman, of Chichester Response Investigation Team, said: ‘If you were jogging or cycling along Chichester canal around the time of this incident please get in contact, your information could be vital.

‘If you think you are the witnesses described or if you have any information or saw anything in the area please contact police.’

It happened at 5.45pm on Sunday, October 26.
