AN EXPENSIVE boat owned by a famous round-the-world sailor has been stolen by thieves.

CCTV footage shows the crooks calmly driving off with the boat using a dark-coloured four-wheel-drive car.

Mr Thomson became the youngest skipper ever to win a round-the-world race in the 1998/1999 Clipper Race.

He was unavailable to speak to The News yesterday as he was sailing near Germany.

But Stewart Hosford, managing director of Alex Thomson Racing, said: ‘The theft of our RIB was a real blow to our Cowes Week plans.

‘The Alex Thomson Racing team is very upset that this has happened and would be extremely grateful to anyone who can provide the police with any information.’

The theft happened at about 8.30pm on Tuesday, August 9.

Anyone with information should call Waterlooville CID on 101.
