GOSPORT’S Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) has been closed down after a break-in.

The MIU at the Gosport War Memorial Hospital in Bury Road, was broken into last night and will be closed for the rest of the day.

Staff at the hospital hope to reopen the unit tomorrow (Friday).

Isabel Gaylard, the head of nursing for emergency medicine at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, said: ‘We are extremely disappointed this break-in to the unit has meant there is a disruption to this valued service.

‘It is our aim to reopen the MIU as soon as possible for the public.

Anyone living in Gosport who suffers a minor injury is advised to travel to the emergency department at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.

This includes injuries such as fractures, breaks or breathing difficulties.

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust says it is expecting the unit to be open as normal tomorrow.
