BURGLARS who stole cash and a computer in a break-in are being hunted by police.

The thieves struck at a flat in Waverley Road, Southsea, escaping with a Toshiba laptop and charger, £200 cash and a money jar containing about £30.

Now police are appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which happened between 10pm on Saturday and 3.45am on Sunday, to come forward.

The flat, near the junction with Herbert Road, is home to two men and a woman aged in their early 20s.

PC Dan Neligan said: ‘A laptop, cash and a money jar were taken, and we believe the offender or offenders carried them away from the scene in a pillow case.

‘If you saw something that you think may help our investigation, please get in touch. Maybe you were walking back from a night out, or were you a taxi driver passing through the area?

‘As always I would like to remind residents of Portsmouth to make sure that all of their windows and doors are fitted with suitable locks and fittings. Ensuring that these locks are securely fastened can greatly reduce the risk of being a victim of a similar crime.’

Call PC Neligan at Southsea station on 101 with information or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555111.
