Knife-wielding raiders left the 74-year-old shaken after the violent attack at Sydenham Court, in Berkshire Close, Landport, Portsmouth.

The grandad-of-15 suffered slashes on his back after he got one of the burglars – who is featured in the efit – in a headlock.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Roy Kimber said: ‘We are not necessarily looking for someone who witnessed the incident, hopefully by now they would have come forward.

‘But what we’re looking for is someone who knows this person.

Think about how you would feel if this was your grandfather or your father who was attacked

‘They could be a school friend, someone he went to school or college with – it could be a member of your family perhaps.

‘Often people have a problem coming forward to police for different reasons.’

But he added: ‘Think about how you would feel if this was your grandfather or your father who was attacked.

‘So we need to speak to this person and find out who they are.’

Det Con Kimber also praised the ‘brave’ actions of the victim who was attacked at his home on October 15 at around 10.30pm.

Last week the pensioner told The News he saw torchlight in the communal lounge of the block of flats before seeing the young man, aged around 17 or 18, crouched on the floor.

The teenager told the victim to go back to bed – but the victim got the teenager in a headlock. It was then a second man emerged and stabbed the OAP in the back.

Det Con Kimber added: ‘He was left quite shaken understandably, this residence is supposed to be somewhere where people can be safe.

‘I think it’s safe to say he doesn’t feel as safe as he did.’

He added: ‘Luckily the injuries the victim suffered were fairly superficial, so he’s got some shallow cuts to the back but it quite easily could have been a lot more serious.’

The first offender, in the eit, is a stocky white man, around 5ft 5in, with fair hair cut short at the sides but longer on top and parted in the middle.

He wore a light-blue or grey hooded top and bottoms and had a local accent.

The second suspect is a thin white man, in his 30s and about 5ft 8in. He wore dark clothing and had dark, curly hair which was described as messy.

Anyone with information should call Det Con Kimber on 101 quoting 44150359013.
