A MAN was punched in the face as he tried to buy a newspaper at a Portsmouth petrol station.

Police have issued a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the assault.

The 46-year-old victim was at a Shell garage in Eastern Road at about 5.40pm on Tuesday, March 18 trying to buy a newspaper.

Police say a man in his mid-20s attacked the victim unprovoked, punching him in the side of the face and knocking him on to the floor.

The victim sustained cuts to the back of his head and lip.

The victim was given medical treatment for the injuries after his assailant had left the scene.
