POLICE were called to check a church ahead of a world premiere concert involving the Royal Marines Band.

The concert took place last night at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church, in Fratton Road, Fratton and saw the 35-strong ensemble from Portsmouth perform the first public rendition of a composition showcasing a town in Malaysia.

Due to the military’s involvement, checks were made by police during the day, however a Royal Navy spokesman said it was a routine procedure.
