CHEESE thief Paul King has been told to pay compensation to the shop he stole from.

The 29-year-old took £18 worth of cheese from the Co-op in Palmerston Road, Southsea.

Unemployed King, of Foster Road, Landport, Portsmouth, pleaded guilty to theft when he appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court.

The magistrates fined King £50 and ordered him to pay £18 to the Co-op store.

The money will automatically be taken out of the benefits he receives.

The theft happened on June 4.
