A CANDIDATE for the police and crime commissioner job has congratulated the woman set to be Hampshire’s new top cop.

Tory Michael Lane welcomed current PCC Simon Hayes’ naming of Olivia Pinkney as preferred chief constable candidate.

He said: ‘Her experience and stature can only serve the people of Hampshire well. By reputation she has a long commitment to and passion for public service and a welcome focus, as a leader, on professional skills and nurturing and developing people.’

The Police and Crime Panel will confirm the job on March 11.
