DETECTIVES been granted until midnight tonight to quiz a murder suspect.

Investigators from the major crime team at Fratton police station are questioning a 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder after Christopher Butler, 27, was found dead on New Year’s Day.

Mr Butler’s body was found in a shared house in Waverley Road, Southsea, at 12.35am.

Hampshire police have said his death was suspicious. A Home Office post mortem was inconclusive.

Portsmouth magistrates have granted police the extension to detain the suspect until midnight tonight before deciding whether or not to charge him.

A 23-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man, who were arrested on suspicion of murder on January 2, have been bailed until February 17.
