POLICE in Leigh Park are raising awareness of criminals on the lookout for mopeds and scooters.

PC Andy Fuller, from Leigh Park Safer Neighbourhood Team, is encouraging owners to keep their bikes safe and avoid becoming a victim of theft.

A number of events have been held over recent months to offer crime prevention advice to riders.

PC Fuller said: ‘At an event on July 8 officers based themselves at a number of locations in Leigh Park.

‘Scooters were also inspected for defects and driver documentation was checked.

‘A number of riders were spoken to and advised.

‘One moped was removed from the road for being in an unsafe condition and one man was arrested for an unrelated matter.’

Safety advice is being offered. Officers say riders should park in safe areas where there are lots of passers-by and onlookers who will see anyone tampering with your vehicle.

An alarm and immobiliser should also be fitted.
