A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash.

The 42-year-old woman was cycling in Burrfields Road, Copnor, Portsmouth, when she was hit by a silver Vauxhall Astra at about 12.10pm today.

Burrfields Road was shut at its junctions with Copnor Road and Dundas Lane for just under three hours while the emergency services worked at the scene.

The road was re-opened at about 3pm.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: ‘A 42-year-old woman on a pedal cycle has suffered serious injuries and was initially taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital.

‘She has since been transferred to Southampton General Hospital with injuries that are deemed to be life-threatening.’

The 24-year-old man who was driving the Vauxhall Astra was unhurt.
