MORE drivers are gambling with people’s lives by drinking and driving in the warm weather, police have warned.

Officers from Sussex Police arrested 31 people on suspicion of driving while over the limit in the area last weekend.

And police say an increasing number of people are breaking the law in the sunny weather.

Now motorists are reminded to steer clear of alcohol when driving – or face tough penalties. Superintendent Tony Blaker from the Sussex Road Policing Unit said: ‘Some people blatantly risk being caught, while others may unintentionally take themselves over the limit as they quench their thirsts in beer gardens or at barbecues.

‘But the only safe limit is not to drink and drive.

‘Drink-driving is, at best, socially unacceptable.

‘At worst, there’s a potential killer in your midst.

‘Sussex Police will continue to target these people and as 31 drivers are about to find out, it’s going to cost them a lot more than a fine and their driving licence.’
