Drink drivers named and shamed

Drivers from Chichester are among more than 100 who have been convicted of drink and drug driving around Sussex in the space of a month.

Sussex Police said 102 motorists were convicted under Operation Dragonfly, the dedicated campaign to target drink and drug-drivers, between June 6 and July 10.

Police released details of the following convictions:

Bradley Knowles, 30, a sales representative, of Brooks Lane West, Bognor, was arrested in Bradlond Close, Bognor, on July 3, and charged with driving with 42mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system and driving with no insurance.

He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 26 and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £425 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Daniel Garrigan, 36, a breeder, of Turnstone Close, Chichester, was arrested on the A27 at Chichester on July 6 and charged with driving with 46mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system.

He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 26 and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

Mark Griffin, 35, a labourer, of Mornington Crescent, Bognor Regis, was arrested in Upper Bognor Road, Bognor, on July 7, and charged with driving with 42mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system and possession of cocaine.

He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 26 and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.

He was also ordered to pay a £840 fine, £85 costs and a £84 victim surcharge.

Mariusz Lullis, 27, a forester, of Park Road, Bognor, was arrested on the A259 at Wick on July 9, and charged with driving with 50mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance.

He pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on July 28 and was disqualified from driving for 36 months.

He was also committed to prison for six weeks, suspended for 12 months, and ordered to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months, and pay £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Police also named a Littlehampton man who drove with excessive amounts of cocaine and cannabis in his system, and without a licence or insurance, who has been jailed.

At Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 2, Christopher Hyder, 23, of York Road, pleaded guilty to driving with 8mcg of cannabis and 56mcg of benzoylecgonine (cocaine) per litre of blood in his system – the legal limits being 2mcg and 50mcg respectively, police said.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail, disqualified from driving for 24 months and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
