A WOMAN has been arrested after a crash that left a pedestrian with a serious head injury.

The 25-year-old driver of a white BMW was arrested after the incident last night in Privett Road, Gosport.

She has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and bailed pending further enquiries.

The 76-year-old female pedestrian was at the crossing at its junction with Browndown Road at 6.30pm.

She suffered a life threatening head injury.

She was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital and is now in a critical but stable condition.

The BMW driver was left shaken but uninjured.

Police now want to hear from anyone who saw the crash or either the vehicle or woman before it.
