Driver's lucky escape after stone thrown from A3M bridge smashes car windscreen

A WOMAN escaped injury when her windscreen smashed after a stone was thrown from a bridge on the A3M.

Police are investigating the incident after the driver, a 57-year-old woman from Gosport, reported an object was thrown from Hulbert Road Bridge nesar Waterlooville.

Hampshire Constabulary has revealed that the woman was driving northbound on the carriageway at around 1.20pm on August 20 when she spotted four people on the bridge. She changed lanes and as her Ford Focus passed under the bridge the windscreen was smashed by a stone which she reported had been thrown from above.

The driver was not hurt and she was able to pull over safely.

She said one of the people on the bridge was a young boy who was white, aged between 12 and 14-years-old, 5ft tall and of a medium build. He had short, thick blonde hair and was wearing a grey T-shirt. He rode away on a bicycle,

Investigating Officer PC Christopher Young said: ‘Throwing items from bridges at passing vehicles is incredibly dangerous and could cause serious injuries. This is the only report of this kind that we have received in the area.’
