A MAN has been handed a suspended prison sentence after fleeing when confronted by police.

Peter West, 34, of Forton Road, Gosport, appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court and was banned from driving for 17 months.

He pleaded guilty to driving with no insurance, driving while disqualified and failing to surrender to custody.

Police stopped him driving a Ford Focus in Hambrook Road, Gosport, on September 8.

Magistrates handed him a 20-week suspended sentence for 12 months as he drove for some distance when confronted by police.

He must pay an £80 victim surcharge and a £150 criminal courts charge.

Magistrates gave him a two-week suspended sentence concurrent for the failing to surrender.
