MINDLESS vandals damaged dozens of cars in a crime spree across the streets of Gosport leaving motorists counting the cost of repairs.

The vandalism happened across a wide area in the course of one night, at around 3.30am.

Damaged vehicles have been reported to police on Station Road, Anns Hill Road, Testcombe Road, Wilmott Lane and Brougham Street.

It happened on Saturday morning.

Councillor Rob Hylands, of Gosport Borough Council, runs the Foresters Arms in Anns Hill Road.

Some of the damage was captured on the pub’s CCTV, which shows a group of six to eight unidentifiable figures moving around cars parked opposite.

Cllr Hylands said: ‘This is just stupid mindless vandalism.

‘If all of the information I have is correct the damage to cars in the area totals over £1,000.

‘This is not something that people need just after Christmas.

‘There cannot have been too many large groups moving around at 3.30am on Saturday morning, so someone knows who these people are.

‘I would urge anyone with any information to report it to the police on 101.

‘The CCTV shows some small dark shadowy figures, around six to eight of them, moving around the cars opposite the pub.

‘It was far too dark to see much else and unfortunately they didn’t come across this side of the road. Had they done so I would have been able to see them pretty clearly.’

In some cases wing mirrors were smashed off cars, while others were scratched or had their door handles removed.

Police said they had nine reports from vehicle owners.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information should call Park Gate police station on 101.
