TWO men who decided to drive drunk around a car park, crashing into a security van, have been banned from the roads.

Harry Phelan, 20, and Luke Colwell, 21, were spotted taking turns driving around a car park at Goodwood Racecourse after a race night in June.

Colwell, of Partridge Gardens, Wecock, crashed a Vauxhall Corsa into a Goodwood security van before getting out so that Phelan, of Portsmouth Road, Horndean, could drive the car.

When police arrived both men were pointed out by security staff and arrested, despite Phelan running off. He was found hiding in woods nearby.

Both men were found to be more than twice the drink-drive limit.

Colwell pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

He was banned from driving for 23 months, fined £110 and told to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Phelan pleaded guilty to driving without insurance and drink-driving.

He was banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay a £380 fine, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
