A DRUG addict shoplifter has been jailed after failing to change his ways.

David Elmore was given a chance to go straight after he was convicted of a string of offences.

Rather than jailing him, Portsmouth magistrates ordered the 47-year-old to undergo regular drug testing in a bid to help him get clean.

But Elmore failed to turn up for his appointments and carried on offending after the court order was made in November.

He missed a drug test on December 29 and failed to turn up at court for a progress hearing on January 5.

Elmore, of Westfield Avenue, Hayling Island, was jailed for 111 days.
