AN 83-year-old man was knocked off his mobility scooter by a hit-and-run driver in Portsmouth.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident which happened at the Cottage View junction with Arundel Street, on Wednesday.

​The elderly man, who was left with a broken hip, was driving his scooter when it was hit by a dark-coloured car driven by a white man who is thought to be in his 40s.

The driver did not stop and the 83-year-old was thrown from the scooter.

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the car in the area at the time.
