Senior police officer hits out at ‘irresponsible’ drivers after 320 thefts from vehicles

An elderly woman had £170 stolen in a distraction burglary in Gosport.

Police are appealing for information after the theft, which happened at a house in Clyde Road between 1pm and 2pm on Thursday.

The 80-year-old woman was visited by a man who asked for money after claiming to have carried out work.

The man then distracted the woman and searched her handbag.

A total of £170 was reported stolen.

The suspect was described as white, with a weather-beaten complexion, and around 50 years old.

He was 5ft 8ins tall, of a medium build and clean shaven.

He was wearing a blue baseball cap, T-shirt and shorts.

Police officers would like to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in Clyde Road, or who has had any suspicious callers to their address offering to carry out work, or claiming to have completed work.
