Explosives are set off
EXPLOSIVES were found by workers who were dredging the Solent to make room for the arrival of aircraft carriers.
An old bomb casing was found on Sunday afternoon and it was detonated by the Royal Navy’s Bomb Disposal Team yesterday at 1.20pm, a mile from the Isle of Wight.
A Royal Navy spokesman, said the casing had contained a small amount of explosives. It was stored on the dredger until it could be disposed of safely.
