A DRIVER stole fuel from petrol stations by convincing staff he had no cash – then failing to pay his bills.

Fraudster Simon Earles, 37, of The Chase, Fareham, admitted five counts of fraud after fuelling up at garages five times and claiming he had no money.

Each time he was allowed to fill in a declaration form stating how much diesel he had received and that he would pay up. But he failed to stump up the cash, totalling £150.26.

Earles swindled Shell garages in Southampton Road, Titchfield; London Road, Hilsea; Wickham; and a BP Garage north of the M3 at Winchester between September last year and May, Portsmouth magistrates heard.

He was told to have six months of drug treatment and pay £235.26.
