IN JUST six months police officers and staff were victims of violent crime 517 times.

The attacks even included one threat to kill and two threats with a blade. There were 274 assaults on a constable in the line of duty.

Hampshire Police Federation chairman John Apter said he was working to make sure officers were safe and assaults were recorded.

There were 113 actual bodily harm attacks in the same timeframe. All of the attacks happened in a six-month period between April 7 and October 10 last year.

The data also shows there were 11 occasions of staff being verbally abused and it was either racially or religiously aggravated.

There were three cases of malicious wounding.

Chief Constable Andy Marsh said: ‘We take a robust stance on people suspected of assaulting any member of staff and will work with the CPS to bring a prosecution.’
