FIREFIGHTERS were called to a charity shop in Fareham town centre after arsonists set fire to furniture outside it.

The furniture was being stored at the back of British Heart Foundation’s store on East Street when it was set alight.

Two crews from Fareham fire station were called to the scene at 2.45am this morning.

When they arrived the furniture was ablaze and had spread to a container filled with sofas.

Firefighters had to break open the container to douse the flames.

They were on the scene until 4am.
