FIVE men will stand trial over an alleged attack on a police officer.

Daniel Johnson, James O’Donnell, Jay Compton, Benjamin Snelling and Beau Tallack are alleged to have been part of a brawl which is said to have happened after police were called because someone smashed a car window in Waterlooville.

Johnson, 23, of Laburnum Road, Waterlooville, is accused of damaging the parked car. He denies the charge.

It is alleged that when Sergeant Tony Jeacock arrived and spoke to the group about the damage they attacked him. O’Donnell, 20, of Ha’penny Dell, Waterlooville, Snelling, 23, of Apollo Drive, Waterlooville and Johnson all deny a charge of attempting to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Compton, 21, of Lombardy Rise, Waterlooville and Tallack, 20, of Icarus Place, Waterlooville, both deny a charge of violent disorder.

The five were released on bail when they appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court. A trial, which is due to last five days, will take place in June.
