A WOMAN who falsely claimed thousands of pounds worth of benefits has been ordered to pay back the money in full.

Claire Atkinson appeared before Fareham Magistrates’ Court after pleading guilty to claiming £8,000.

A investigation by Gosport Borough Council’s fraud team led to the arrest.

Atkinson, of Sunningdale Close, Gosport, failed to disclose to the council that her husband’s wages had increased, falsely claiming £8,000 in housing and council tax benefit.

The 37-year-old was also told to do 100 hours of unpaid community work and pay £100 court costs.
