CASH takings from a funeral wake were stolen by thieves in a distraction burglary at a a social club.
Police have released CCTV images of two suspects following the incident at Cowplain Social Club, London Road, Cowplain, just before 8.50am today.
A man came to the door of the social club and enquired about scrap metal.
While the woman staff member was distracted, another man came into the social club and stole cash tins containing hundreds of pounds in cash.
The money was bar and kitchen takings from a wake yesterday.
Both men left on foot towards Padnell Road, at the junction with London Road.
PC Aaron Sutton, from Waterlooville police station, said: ‘This has left the woman staff member very upset and in shock.
‘The takings that have been stolen were from a wake that took place at the club on Wednesday.’
The man who called at the door is described as white, fat, between 40 and 50 years old, with short greying dark black hair, a bushy moustache, and wearing a dark brown jacket. He had a black or gold front tooth.
The second man was described as white, in his late 40s, of stocky or fat build, with a shaved head and round face.
He was wearing a white striped Adidas jacket, grey shirt, shorts, boots with white socks and carrying a blue and black coloured sports holdall.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recognises the descriptions of the offenders should contact PC Sutton at Waterlooville police station on 101.
