Girl, 17, left fighting for her life after being attacked with a hammer in Portsmouth

A MANHUNT has been launched after a 17-year-old suffered '˜life-threatening' injuries in a hammer attack in Portsmouth.

Police say that the girl was attacked and left with a serious head injury at a house in Shearer Road, Buckland, just before 7pm this evening.

She has been taken to Southampton General Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition - and police say they are trying at the moment ‘to locate all parties believed to have been involved in the incident’.

The police helicopter has been seen circling in the area.

Ambulance crews were called to a house in Shearer Road at 7.05pm.

A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said that the woman had been assaulted and had suffered life-threatening injuries.

She added: ‘She was assessed and treated at the scene and then taken in a land ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.’

The ambulance service sent out a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance crew and the air ambulance, which landed on Southsea Common. The woman was taken to Southampton by road with the helicopter crew also travelling with her.

Police have been in Shearer Road throughout the evening, and three homes have been cordoned off. There are two officers by the cordon, and they have been instructed not to reveal anything about the incident or the investigation.

There are currently forensics officers in the house in question carrying out an examination. Camera flashes can be seen through the home’s closed curtains.

Three window panels on the front door are broken, and have been boarded up.
