A CHARITY shop was broken into and had its collection tins stolen.

Barnardo’s, on Whitworth Road in Gosport, had to close last Monday after the front window and door was smashed.

The tins were taken but they had been emptied the previous day and only contained small amounts of cash.

Store manager Megan Judge said: ‘We work hard to raise money for the most vulnerable children and young people, so it’s really disheartening when thieves target charities like us.

‘Although they took our collection tins, they only contained a few pence as they are emptied at the end of every day.

‘Unfortunately, we had to close the store for the day while the smashed front window and internal door was repaired, which meant we lost a day’s worth of takings. While a little shaken by the experience, we’d like to thank all our shoppers for their continued support.’
