POLICE have charged a teenager with grooming a child.

Daniel Salmon, 19, is alleged to have groomed the 13-year-old before meeting up with her in Gosport and abusing her.

It is alleged that once the matter was reported to the police he then contacting the girl online through Facebook in a bid to get her to stop the investigation.

Salmon, of Biddlecombe Close, Gosport, has not yet entered pleas to charges of meeting a girl under 16 following grooming, inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity and intimidating a witness.

He appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court via video-link from Reading prison where the case was adjourned.

The magistrates ruled the allegations are so serious the case should be heard at the crown court.

Salmon was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court next month.
