A WOMAN has admitted claiming an extra £11,000 in benefits which she was not entitled to.

An investigation carried out by Gosport Borough Council’s fraud team resulted in the successful prosecution of Denise Wallace.

Wallace, 53, formerly of St Nicholas Avenue, Gosport, pleaded guilty to two offences under the Social Security Administration Act 1992.

She failed to promptly notify the council and made a false representation on a housing benefit review form that her husband Graham Gibbs had moved into her property to live with her.

Wallace was sentenced to a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay £50 towards the council’s costs.

By continuing to claim housing and council tax benefit to which she was not entitled, Wallace received an overpayment of over £11,000, money which she must now pay back to the council in full.
