A MAN pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer and possession of a knife blade.

Chichester Magistrates’ Court heard how 37-year-old Garreth Gould, who lives in St Agnes Place, Chichester, and works at Covers merchants, ran away from police.

According to the prosecution, Gould, who had been drinking, continued to resist police after hitting an officer on the shoulder.

A lockable Stanley knife was found in Gould’s possession. Sharon Waggott, defending, said: ‘These knives are used at Covers to take tape off the boxes.’ The case was adjourned to April 15.
