TWO robbers wearing Halloween skeleton costumes smashed their way into a petrol station and stole the safe.

The cashier heard a loud crash and was confronted by a man wearing a skeleton outfit and armed with a baseball bat.

It is believed he and his accomplice had used a concrete bollard to smash the locked front glass door at Shell Service Station off the A27 at Fontwell, near Chichester, at 1.20am on Sunday.

One of the robbers shouted at the cashier while the other man jumped over the counter and grabbed a safe containing cash.

They then got into a three-door silver vehicle and escaped towards Bognor.

The male staff member was unharmed but left shaken. The robbers were wearing all in one skeleton costumes with attached hoods which covered their faces.
