BEAT bobbies have been offering advice and marking bikes in a bid to stop bicycle thefts around Fareham.

Officers from Fareham’s town centre unit have been at the bandstand in West Street, Fareham, security coding bikes for £3 and selling Kryptonite D-locks for a reduced price of £20.

PCSO Graham Stanton said: ‘We have a lot of bicycle thefts in Fareham so we’re trying to do something to reduce that.

‘When we did the beat surgeries we would get quite a lot of people making inquiries about bike marking so we realised there was a need there.’

Officers will be back at the bandstand for another session on Tuesday, May 8 from 10am to 2pm.
