A MAN whose body was pulled out of Chichester Marina has been named.

Simon Tarrant was discovered in the water beneath a jetty at around 4pm on Sunday. The 45-year-old lived on a houseboat at the marina and was last seen at 1am on Sunday morning.

But when friends could not find him a search started at around midday, and his body was found underneath a pontoon at 4pm.

Marina manager Graham Bristowe said: ‘We believe this to be a tragic accident. The person was sleeping on a boat, he got up in the middle of the night and fell between the pontoon and the boat. It’s obviously always a tragedy when you have accidents like this, of course we send our condolences to the family. We responded to a report of a missing person in the middle of the day at which point we set about our process of looking around and contacted the police as well as the coastguard, harbour master and RNLI.’

It is believed the man lived at the marina with his family. Police are not treating his death as suspicious and have referred the case to the coroner’s officer.
