A FOOTBALLER from Havant has undergone facial surgery after allegedly being assaulted during a Sunday league match.

The 29-year-old man suffered a broken jaw following the alleged attack during the match yesterday morning at Bourne Community College, Park Road, Southbourne.

He was taken to Queen Alexandra Hospital, where he remains today receiving treatment.

Police are investigating whether he was attacked by a 21-year-old man from Bognor.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: ‘This was a very nasty attack and was witnessed by other footballers and spectators.

‘We would like to hear from anyone who has information that could help police with their inquiries.

‘Please call 101 quoting 694 of January 15 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.’
