BRAVE Adam Collard chased down a burglar on a bike before grabbing the bag the raider had stolen.

The 18-year-old spotted a man getting away with receptionist Liping Pan’s handbag and two phones from Tai Yi in Stoke Road, Gosport.

But the burglar wasn’t counting on Adam, who gave chase before jamming his foot in the bike, sending the man flying and getting a phone and bag back.

Liping, 47, said: ‘He was my hero. I really appreciate what he did for me.

‘He’s a brave young man. I think he will have a great future.

‘I don’t know how to describe my feelings.’

Liping was in the toilet when the burglar walked into the store and took her belongings from behind the counter.

When she came out she saw him riding away and gave chase with the store owner but they weren’t quick enough.

But luckily Adam, of Gosport, was walking nearby.

He said: ‘I was on the way back from shopping with my uncle and I heard a loud bang down Stoke Road.

‘I saw this woman shouting at this man on a bike.

‘I saw him riding along on his bike, trying to get away and he was shouting “leave me alone”.

‘No way was he getting away with her handbag.

‘I started sprinting after him – I chased him down.’

Adam ran down Elmhurst Road but lost sight of the man in a bend in the road.

Quick-thinking Adam darted down Newtown alley, spotting the man again.

‘I thought he would go down the alley,’ he said.

‘I saw him, he was just about to go through the back.

‘I jammed my left foot into his bike and he went flying over the handlebars.’

Back on his feet the burglar raised a fist at Adam, who bravely told him he’d get into more trouble and better leave.

‘The woman was grateful,’ Adam added.

The man was white, 5ft 10in, stocky, in his 20s with short brown hair and stubble.

He was wearing a grey jacket, dark coloured tracksuit bottoms. He was carrying Liping’s bag on the handlebars of a woman’s turquoise bike.

She says she now wants to nominate Adam for Gosport’s citizen of the year.

It happened on April 23 at around 1.20pm,
