GARDEN ornaments and stone worth almost £4,000 have been stolen.

The crooks broke into a site in South Lane, Buriton, near Petersfield, where a house is being renovated.

The stolen items included four staddle stones which are a grey natural stone and mushroom shaped. All four stones together are valued at £1,400.

Sixteen square metres of Welsh slate, valued at £1,200, was taken.

The offenders took a cast iron fountain, which had been painted white and had dolphins on it, valued between £1,000 and £2,000. The burglary happened between 5.15pm on Monday and 7.30am yesterday.

Investigating officer PC Jessica Sheedy said: ‘The house is located at the end of a bridleway and vehicles would need to turn around in order to be able to exit South Lane.’ Call police on 101.
